This is genius; PC maker Lenovo has just announced a power brick which is not only small – half an inch thick and about the size of a pack of playing cards – but can also, with the purchase of additional charging tips, power other devices. For an encore, it can charge two devices – your laptop and phone, for example – at the same time, a real boon for space-strapped travellers.

It's not for Macs, obviously, but that's no reason not to applaud some very practical, sensible thinking. Apple, are you listening?

As a writer for MacFormat, you have to remain at the cutting edge, hence my immediate upgrade to Leopard more or less as soon as it arrived. There were many problems in doing this, but the biggest was the loss of my dependable back-up system that enabled almost immediate recovery in the event of hard-drive failure. Thankfully, SuperDuper! has finally been updated (a long and tough process, if you've been following the adventures of the hard-working developer via his blog), and is now happy working with Leopard and alongside Time Machine. It's times like this that the word 'phew' was made for.
